The SSL Fusion gives us Vintage Drive saturation, Violet EQ shelves, an HF Compressor, Stereo Image width control, and a transformer output stage — all analogue, all switchable independently.
What we actually use
The Violet EQ shelves are extraordinarily musical for very broad tonal moves, and the HF Compressor is one of the best-behaved de-harshers in hardware. The Stereo Image section gets used sparingly for widening the sides of a mix that arrives narrow, always checked in mono through the Angry Boxes.
In the stem workflow
Because each section can be engaged individually, the Fusion is ideal for stem work: transformer stage on the drum bus, HF compressor on the vocal bus, width on the music bus.
