Herchild 670N Compressor Fairchild Style Analogue Glue
Herchild 670N Compressor Fairchild Style Analogue Glue
Fairchild glue without the museum price
The original Fairchild 670 is a six-figure collector's item. The Herchild 670N reproduces that variable-mu topology — fourteen valves, enormous transformers, and the two-knob simplicity that makes it impossible to over-think.

What it does to a master
Two things nothing else in our rack does. It glues: transients settle into the body of the mix rather than sitting proud of it. And it thickens: even at a decibel of gain reduction, the harmonic content the valve stage adds makes the whole record feel closer to the listener.
Our settings
Time constants 2 or 4 for most programme material, 1 dB to 2 dB of reduction, lateral/vertical mode when we want the centre held while the sides stay open. Anything more aggressive and it stops being glue and starts being an effect — occasionally that is exactly what the track wants.
Hardware info
A genuine Fairchild would cost more than the rest of this room combined. The Herchild is still one of the largest, heaviest and most expensive single units we own.
