Black Box Analog Design HG-2 Quad Tube Harmonic Colour Box
Black Box Analog Design HG-2 Quad Tube Harmonic Colour Box
Four tubes, one purpose
The HG-2 does not compress and it does not equalise. It adds harmonics — pentode and triode saturation, blendable, with a density control that thickens the whole signal. It is the most colouring device in our rack and the one clients hear most immediately.

Where it transforms a master
Sparse, clean, in-the-box productions. A quarter turn of triode adds even-order warmth that makes a digital mix feel analogue; the pentode side adds edge and presence that cuts through phone speakers. Used gently across a full mix, the HG-2 raises perceived loudness without touching a limiter.
A word of restraint
It is easy to overdo. We commit to a setting, then A/B against bypass at matched level through the MTC-2 — if the bypass sounds cleaner and just as exciting, the HG-2 comes out.
Hardware info
A serious professional saturation unit priced far above the plugin emulations that chase it.
