We run both the Jünger Audio D01 and D02, and the reason is the one function almost nothing else does well — upward and downward expansion of dynamic range on finished programme material.
Undoing over-compression
Mixes arrive squashed. Sometimes that is a choice; often it is a plugin left on a bus. The Jünger units let us give the record its dynamics back: transients regain travel, the space between phrases reopens, and the master breathes in a way no amount of EQ can imitate.
Multiband control
The multiband dynamics sections are equally valuable in the other direction, controlling a specific frequency region that misbehaves across an album without imposing a global compression character on every track.

Broadcast-heritage German engineering, long out of production, and increasingly hard to find at any price — which is exactly why mastering engineers who own them keep quiet about it.
