Manley Massive Passive Mastering EQ
Manley Massive Passive Mastering EQ (2020 Model with Manley Power 300V DC Rail)
The tone machine
Our Manley Massive Passive is the 2020 mastering version, running the Manley 300V DC rail power supply. It is a passive, tube-make-up-gain EQ, and it behaves nothing like a clean parametric: bands interact, the curves are wide and musical, and you shape with feel rather than numbers.

Why we own one
Some mixes do not need correction, they need character. The Massive Passive can add a full decibel and a half at 12 kHz and the result reads as expensive rather than bright. The low shelf is the reason engineers keep buying these thirty years on — you can make a mix feel bigger without the kick drum losing its front edge.
In the chain
We tend to place it after the Maselec MLA-2, using it as the final tonal statement before conversion. On stem sessions it earns its keep on the drum bus and the music bus separately, where its wide bands avoid the phase artefacts that narrow digital EQ introduces.
Hardware info
The mastering version with the upgraded power supply is one of the most expensive stereo equalisers a studio can buy new, and it holds value like a vintage instrument.
